So the whole month of June has gone by and not a single post from me. I’ll tell ya, it went by fast. There were so many things going on with my sister’s wedding in Dallas, two weeks worth of evening classes for newborns, an AIGA National Retreat in San Francisco, and finally a ruptured appendix that landed me a full-week stay in the hospital. It’s like time that I can’t get back. It’s been “fun” trying to get caught up and back to full speed.
I found this little gem at a Half-Price Books store just before my sister’s wedding, but had hoped to post about it when I returned from San Francisco. The hospital stay side-tracked that effort, so now here I am finally able to talk about it.
This is a little booklet of which only 200 copies were printed back in 1922. Mr. McMurtrie goes over the history of the Didot typeface and how perhaps the Bodoni typeface was a copy of it. It’s pretty interesting and a great piece of history. I think the thing that I like about it so much is how old it is and being able to view first-hand the method of typesetting for the early ‘20’s. Below are some shots of the booklet.
